Shares of Boeing Co. powered up 3.6% in premarket trading Wednesday, after the aerospace and defense giant swung to a surprise profit, amid higher commercial volume and lower period costs. Net income for the quarter to June 30 was $587 million, or $1.00 a share, after a loss of $2.38 billion, or $4.20 a share, in the year-ago period.
