At the end of July the Treasury Department will suspend the sale of bonds, the avenue by which the U.S. finances its debt obligations. Unless an agreement between lawmakers in Congress to raise the statutory debt limit is reached, the federal government may begin defaulting on its financial obligations, and could be forced to shutdown.
