Stocks opened sharply lower Monday, under pressure as the continued spread of the omicron variant of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 sparked worries over both growth and inflation. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -1.53% fell 512 points, or 1.4%, to 34,854 , while the S&P 500 SPX, -1.35% dropped 1.3% to 4,559.
