Stocks opened modestly higher Monday, kicking off the month on a positive note after major indexes ended last week at records. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.38% rose 170 points, or 0.5%, to 35,990, while the S&P 500 SPX, +0.17% was up 0.3% at 4,619.11.
