The Federal Reserve continues to purchase $120.0 billion or so in securities every month but offsets these purchases with the use of reverse repurchase agreements. Because of this, reserve balances with Federal Reserve banks have not increased in a major way for several months in order to keep the Federal Funds rate in positive territory.
