Stocks were off to a mixed start Wednesday, struggling for direction amid a lack of fresh catalysts. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.08% was down 48 points, or 0.1%, at 34,537, while the S&P 500 SPX, -0.08% rose less than 0.1% to 4,445.
