Stocks opened with modest gains Monday, as investors looked ahead to this week’s virtual gathering of policy makers for an annual symposium that will be highlighted by a Friday speech from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.61% rose 187 points, or 0.5%, while the S&P 500 SPX, +0.57% was up 0.5% at 4,464.67.
