9.45am: Jobless claims provide relief US stocks moved higher in early trading on Thursday after data showed US weekly jobless claims prove lower than forecast, although the trade deficit widened. After 15 minutes of trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 197 points, or 0.6% at 34,987, while the broader S&P 500 index added 0.3%, and the tech-laden Nasdaq Composite gained 0.2%.
