Current valuation metrics like P/E, EV/EBITDA, and CAPE are often compared to their historical levels, with the relative difference used as evidence of future equity performance. Such arguments generally ignore exogenous factors influencing the valuation and usually fail to provide any evidence that the relative valuation is predictive.
