Wells Fargo posted complicated second quarter results; the bank posted a pre-provision beat even on the most conservative interpretation, as unusually large equity sales gains boosted the reported numbers. The near-term story in the core operations is the same here as for most banks – improving credit, but weak loan growth and spread leverage.
