The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 index ended higher for the first time in six sessions, with the blue-chip index producing its best daily gain since early August as investors bought energy and financial assets to start the week. The Dow DJIA, +0.76% closed up by about 262 points, or 0.8%, to 34,870, halting a five-session skid and notching its best point and percentage advance since Aug. 5, FactSet data show.
