The Institute for Supply Management’s Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index fell to 57.6 in January, off 1.2 points from 58.8 percent in December. The new orders index fell 3.1 points to 57.9 percent in January. It has been above 50 for 20 consecutive months but fell below 60 for the first time since September 2020.
